Spectrum app keeps freezing and audio is out of sync

I am having a similar issue with the audio going out of sync when watching live TV using the spectrum TV app on our AppleTV 4k. Of note:
⚫️ We have the same problem on two TVs (both with the same model of Apple TV)
⚫️ changing channels generally fixes the issue but over time it keeps happening… the longer i watch the more out of sync the audio gets
⚫️ this started about a month ago 11/2022 ish
⚫️ no combination of audio or video settings makes a difference. i’ve basically tried every permutation at this point
I suspect the issue is in Spectrum’s side but looking for advise anywhere i can find it

I contacted spectrum as the ticket they said was submitted was overdue for an update. I was told the ticket was closed. Interesting event. The problem persists. I have reviewed streaming services with live TV. The price of removing the bundled price from the spectrum, just keeping the internet then adding my choice of YouTube TV and HBO plus is the same price as what I have now. I have a two-week free trial.
The live TV menu is far more modern, much nicer to use, and far more user-friendly AND check this out---provides a thumbnail view of the video with each channel listing for the live TV menu Wow, NICE! Very nice. I like it.
I expect I will cancel Spectrum TV within the next day or two. Not happy they closed a ticket without addressing the issue., from what I experienced. I was dismissed is how I perceive this. They provided me with a clear message and no solution to their problem, appears to be no attempt to resolve it, in my opinion. Times up I need to move on, Problem solved :)

Found the source of the issue. After multiple calls in a single day to spectrum, I was told by the spectrum agent it is a spectrum problem that has increased in volume and frequency recently. In particular in the last week. The problem has been escalated to a tech team specializing in this kind of issue. They will be reviewing and analyzing it and hopefully will find a solution. let's hope they do.

Try this for any misbehaving app:
- Force-quit the app, then relaunch and try again.
- If the issue persists, force-quit the app, restart the device, then relaunch and try again.
- If the issue still persists, delete the app, re-download and try again.
- If the issue still persists after that, then contact the app developer for further assistance.

I have tried every response from every forum, ones from years back (saying to go to audio/visual settings and just reset or change to "auto" mode, basically toggle everything and try everything-- nothing worked), and tried the ones mentioned above, and as the others have reported, nothing has worked. Nothing. Additionally, as the others have said, the issue is 24/7 for me now. So much so that I cannot even watch live TV (Spectrum App)-- AKA what we are all paying a subscription for!
Another issue that started a few days ago, in addition to this audio/visual issue, is a problem that actually occurred over a year ago for me, in a different city, but using AppleTV Spectrum app. This problem is-- your AppleTV screensaver coming on (you notice silence all of the sudden) after only a few minutes of turning on your Spectrum Live TV. You then press a button, and the show you were watching comes right back on.
Last year, I went to the forums, they said this error occurs when you click on a "recent channel" versus clicking on the Spectrum app when on the AppleTV menu. Quick fix for me last year! Tried this solution now, and of course, no fix. Instead, the screensaver literally pops up after only 60 seconds.
So I have TWO unbearable problems that are unfixable for at least 5 weeks now with this app. No idea what to do after trying every avenue!!!

I agree that the Spectrum app is the problem. I called Spectrum and insisted that a tech come out to look at what’s happening. The tech basically said that this is a known problem between Apple TV and the Spectrum app. He actually said “they aren’t compatible” What?! Why is Spectrum SELLING Apple TV’s to use with their app if they know it’s not compatible? The app developers need to figure this out!

The problem does not occur when using other apps directly for example ESPN or other news apps in my experience. I have tried all the solutions recommended. I found the solution. I installed other apps circumventing the spectrum app and watched tv- I don't experience the list of problems in this tread. I believe the problem is with spectrum app. In my opinion, the solution is to get HULU or some other streaming service with live tv. I am going to cancel spectrum tv and replace it with a streaming service app with live tv, add some sort of channel packages so I have everything I need, I believe from initial review it is also cheaper. BTW the video picture seems to be a just a little higher quality with the native apps.

Mine is doing the same thing started a couple weeks ago but has gotten progressively worse. I have updated, uninstalled, reinstalled and called support at Apple, Spectrum and finally Visio (my tv brand). Nothing has fixed it. Not one thing has improved- it’s actually gotten much worse. Ugh. If anyone has found a fix for this please post it!!

I watch tv through the Spectrum app on my iPad and a few weeks ago I started to notice that whatever program I was watching I would catch a repeat of a few words and then the audio would be severely out of sync. The only way to fix it was to just hop onto another channel and then go right back to what I was watching. However, it does this multiple times during every program. I have tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling and nothing fixes it. I have so many issues with Spectrum already and this is just ridiculous.

I notice that this happens when Spectrum inserts a “local” commercial, usually theirs. Spectrum/Apple also seem to have more problems on live stations like CNN, MSNBC, FOX. Local commercials hang the streaming and then the audio goes out of sync.
One last thing…this only started to happen in November 2022. So what changed Apple and Spectrum?

Thank you for posting this info. I was going bonkers trying to resolve it on my own. Was going to call Spectrum tomorrow but I will wait to see if they resolve it (hopefully quickly). For now, will try to avoid using the Spectrum App.

If this works without the sync issue and I am sure it will, I am canceling Spectrum TV. Not happy they closed a ticket without addressing the issue., from what I experienced. I was dismissed is how I perceive this. They provided me with a clear message and no solution to their problem. The chance they get my business back is zero. Problem solved. :)

So basically we have to pay more in order to get our devices to work as advertised? That still doesn’t make sense.
Can you elaborate on what exactly you did? Like what bandwidth you started with, and what you are using now that you say works effectively?
Also, did anyone at Spectrum recommend that you do this to fix the problem? Or did you think of this on your own?

Yes had NBC network on for 4 hours during the Golden Globes - with all national commercials - and it did not happen. For me it only happens on my cable news stations (MSNBC, CNN, etc) and yes when local commercials come on it freezes - with audio from the next commercial continuing. In addition, during the news program I'm watching - I hear a same sentence twice and then the out of sync begins. I'm in Los Angeles BTW.

I can confirm that the spectrum tv app on Apple TV 4K is still blurry and out of sync using an 8K/10K hdmi cable on LG Oled TV. I also have 1Gbps internet Wi-Fi.. It plays crystal clear on my iPad/iPhone but on the Apple TV 4K app it is going to be a 100% blurry picture at some point.
