maijke v this movie made me cry so much but it was absolutely amazing and magical to see how even real life contributes to that of how it's not perfect and that you will always be remembered it touched a special place in my heart, to appreciate the values of life itself Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Audience Member Still one of the best films of 2014! A decade later and this works so well with solid acting, a beautiful love story, and some amazing leads Based on the book by John Greene inspired by Julius Caesar and directed by Josh Boone starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort It's one of those cancer love stories we are very familiar with but the solid chemistry of its co-stars makes it difficult to turn away rather than coming off as a disease of the week movie Hazel is a young teenager diagnosed with lung cancer at a very young age and to her she's a grenade meaning she could blow up everyone's lives in an instant never knowing if she'll live a life without worrying about her health She's also never experienced true love All that changes when she meets Gus at a support group she's reluctant to go to Both of them hit it off very well slowly blooming into a cute romance Hazel also has this dream of meeting her favorite author of her favorite book in Germany and thanks to Gus it may be possible so she can finally understand the ending Hazel and Gus also have their buddy Issac who's reeling from a breakup I'm not gonna lie i did wipe my eyes from tears a few times The two leads have such incredible personalities and sell their relationship I absolutely loved the parents in this played by both Laura Dern and Sam Trammell, heck I wish they were in the movie more because they're so lovable The soundtrack is also very cool and when they go to Germany it's very uplifting The look of the film is also very crisp and clear Life doesn't have to be perfect for love to be extraordinary, it doesn't matter if you're loved by all only one person is enough, pain demands to be felt, cancer is one thing but two people falling for each other is so much stronger Boone and the cast make for a very heartfelt, heartbreaking, and effective love story that makes itself stand out from the typical films most viewers know And it isn't made to manipulate or exploit its subject matter Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/06/24 Full Review Hargie M While the film may have brought tears to my eyes more than once, it also left me with a profound sense of hope and gratitude for the beauty of life and love.
