Each year I do a video of my daughters with the Christmas trains for Christmas, it's really fun to watch each year in order to see how both the girls and my train layouts grow. This past year I included the small layout I have in the basem*nt in the video. Below is a link to the video if you'd like to see it. I'm looking forward to shooting the 2014 version, I'll post it here on the forum after we are done.

I have a small O-27 layout as my one and only year round layout! LOL

It's 39" x 80". It has two loops, the inner one can be run as an oval or a figure 8. I run mostly postwar stuff, but have a smidgen of prewar and MPC era Lionel.

"Small" and O27 fits the description of my layout, a 4x8. Outer loop is 0-42, inner is 0-27. Switches are all Ross 0-31. I have since added a shelf to the front to hold the MTH TIU, DCS Remote Commander "TIU", and my assortment of Lionel and MTH command remotes.

I used an old corner module for the club I belong to to build a small Marx layout. The table is hexagonal, and measures roughly 5' x 3 1/2'. The track itself is an oval 27" x 54".

Here's a shot of the track plan:

I use little house shaped cookie tins for the buildings. I can usually find one at the local Goodwill about every three months if I check pretty regular. I have more of them than will fit on the layout, so I rotate them occasionally.

Here's a few more shots of the layout, more or less complete:

I'm mid-stream re-building a permanent layout, but finally gotthe Christmas layout running. Yesterday was reserved for my grandfather's old PW stuff. Had the 2056 4-6-4, Seaboard NW-2 and 4-4-0 General running well. Also have a custom kit trolley he built in the 1940s running in the center. Can't complain about old Lionel reliability.

Howard,

They are all repros. Some of them (with the grey bases) are by Trico from a while ago. I bought those thinking they were originals. The ones with the white bases are from a Christmas village line. I can't recall which one. They are a bit smaller than the Trico figures, and definitely better painted. I believe they are cast resin, with the Trico being molded paper mache if I remember the article in the TCA Quarterly correctly.

Hello My friends, I just love small layouts with my Marx Trains my layout is 4x8 but I still love it too. When you do not have the room a 4x8 layout is the best. You have lot fun on 4x8 with Marx trains I find Thanks longow57ca.

that's a very kind offer!

my Christmas platform. This was my Uncle Jim's, I was on the floor at my Grandparents growing up watching the Keystone on Jim's 2020, and his Marx CV. Now these are in my care.

When 4 X 8 is all the space you have available you make it work.

JWhite- love the bottle holder. Don't want to spill anything on the trains Lets See Your Small O27 Layouts (30)

Hi all,

Our layout is 3.5'x8' and is based on the layout from the Kalmbach book "HO Railroad that grows". It's a work in progress and a lot of fun to run. :-)

Here's some photos my son took. Hope to have a video soon.

Normally I am not a big fan of a layout that has almost as much track as scenery. But in your case it works very well.

Nice video.

Poor pictures, but I put this O gauge one together for a few months after we moved years ago till I could get time to build a larger room layout. Now under the Room layout I rotate S or Marklin ho on a 4X8 as well.

Here is the little 5x9 layout I have built for my grandson and I. It is 027, but we have now added a loop of Super O around the outside of the original layout. We still have to work on the scenery, but we can run trains.

In our previous house the only place I could have a layout was in the living room. This was a 4'X8' mostly switching pike:

Fastrack O36 curves.

Fastrack O72 track switches. A lot of switching operations in 32 sq ft.

It may be an old thread, but it is nice to see other small layouts on here. There are many beautiful layouts shown on this site, but not everyone has room for a 30x40, or 10x20 layout. So, the small layouts will always be a popular topic, in my humble opinion.
