Getting Started with Legacy Devices (2024)

Some things to consider before you connect to Wi-Fi:

• Does the web connection require users to enter information on any type of captive portal/login page? This can block our devices from successfully authenticating. This will require IT involvement.
• Our Wi-Fi devices only support 2.4GHz networks. These devices will not connect to 5GHz networks. If bandsteering is enabled on your network, you may need to have it disabled.
• Confirm these ports are open:
  • TCP Port 8883 outbound (MQTT over SSL), destination address: iot.stattemp.io, IP addresses 54.173.251.106 and 3.221.75.93
  • Port 123 (NTP), host: pool.ntp.org

Setup Your Device:

• Unbox your Stat Temp monitor and sensor(s).
• Place the sensor in its desired location.
• Plug the device into power with the supplied power cord.
• Turn the device on by sliding the power switch into the up position.

When you turn your monitor on, the LED will be blinking BLUE.

If your device is not blinking blue, follow these steps to put the device into listening mode:

1. Insert a paperclip into the bottom pinhole on the left side (above the LED) and hold it there. The LED will turn royal blue.

2. Continue to hold the paperclip in the bottom pinhole. The LED will stay royal blue or turn magenta.

3. If the LED stays royal blue, release the paper clip when the light starts to rapidly flash royal blue (about 8 seconds).

4. If the LED flashes magenta, immediately release the paperclip. The device will start flashing green.

5. Reinsert the paperclip into the bottom pinhole and hold it until it rapidly flashes blue, then release the paperclip.

If the light turns yellow, you will need to reset the device and start over. To reset the device, push a paperclip into the top pinhole and release it.

Connect To Wi-Fi:

Please note that before connecting your device to Wi-Fi, ensure that the sensor is plugged in and the monitor is in listening mode (indicated by fast blinking royal blue light). directions above

Connection Methods:

• Particle Application Method (iOS only)
• CLI Method (advanced configuration)

Particle Application Method (iOS only):

If you do not have access to an iPhone, do not use an Android, it will not work. You will need to use the CLI Method or contact customer support at StatTemp@gohcl.com

1. Open the App Store on your iOS device and download the Particle IoT application. The icon for the app is dark blue with an 8-point white star.
2. Once downloaded, open the Particle IoT application.
   1. During this process, it may ask to grant permission to use your location and to access other devices on your network. Select yes for all permissions.
3. Click 'GET STARTED'
4. Click 'Skip Authentication'
5. Click 'Yes'
6. Click the + sign on the top right.
7. Click 'Photon'.
8. Go to the iOS device Wi-Fi settings and connect to the available Photon-XXXXXX network.
9. Once connected, return to the Particle IoT application and click 'Ready'.
10. Select the network you are connecting to and enter your password.
11. If you are connecting to a hidden network:
    1. when prompted to select your Wi-Fi network, click the option at the bottom that says 'My network is not listed'.
    2. Type in the network name. Network names are case-sensitive, so be careful to type it in exactly as it appears.
    3. Type in the password
12. Click 'Connect'.

Your device will restart. The LED will fast blink green, then fast blink light blue, then slow blink light blue. That means your device is connected to Wi-Fi. It may also update if an update is available. The LED will blink magenta if it needs to be updated.

Using the CLI to connect to Wi-Fi (advanced configuration):

The CLI communicates directly with the Stat Temp monitor and can help with setting up Wi-Fi and upgrading/downgrading firmware.

1. Download the CLI here: https://docs.particle.io/tutorials/developer-tools/cli/
2. Under USING WINDOWS, click the link that says ‘Download the Windows CLI Installer' and run it on your computer. This process takes a couple of minutes. Make sure you grant all permissions needed to download.
3. Plug the sensor(s) into the Stat Temp monitor.
4. Plug the Stat Temp monitor into the computer's USB port with the provided MicroUSB cord.
5. When the installer is downloaded, open the Command Line Prompt in Windows. (search for CMD in the search bar next to your Windows menu).
6. Type in the Command Prompt: particle serial wifi
7. When it prompts ‘Should I scan for nearby WiFi networks?’ enter ‘n’ and hit enter.
8. SSID: type in the name of the network you are connecting to (this is case-sensitive)
9. It may prompt for:
10. Security type (Use arrow keys) – choose WPA2
11. Cipher type (Use arrow keys) – choose AES+TKIP
12. WiFi Password – enter the password for the network that you choose above

Done! Your device should now restart. – Your device will restart. The LED will fast blink green, then fast blink light blue, then slow blink light blue. That means your device is connected to Wi-Fi. It may also update if an update is available. The LED will blink magenta if it needs to be updated.

Add a Monitor:

• Log into your Stat Temp web portal
• Click the third icon on the left, this will go to your Monitors page.
• Click '+ Create' on the top right.
• Name your monitor.
• Enter the serial number. This is located on the sticker on the back of your monitor.
• When everything is entered, click 'Save'.

Add a Sensor:

No action is required on your part to integrate your sensor with the website; the monitor will seamlessly incorporate the attached sensor as soon as it records its first reading.

All sensors are added to the site with these default settings:

• Named after the monitor with the sensor serial number.
• Assigned the Logging Only Environment Policy.
  • -200° C - 200° C
  • Readings every 30 minutes
• No audible alerts.

You will be able to access the new sensor from your dashboard. To return to the dashboard, click the Stat Temp logo on the top left of your Stat Temp website.

Editing A Sensor:

Once your sensor is added, you will need to finish setting it up. To do so, click on the new sensor from your dashboard. This will open the sensor page for your new sensor. On this page, click ‘Edit’ on the top right.

On the next page, you can make the following changes:

• Name the sensor.
• Add the sensor to a sensor group, if applicable
• Choose an Environment Policy for your new sensor and set how often it takes a reading.
• Toggle audible alerts
• Click 'Save' once everything is set up properly.

Add a User:

Users log in and can interact with the Stat Temp website.

• On the Users screen, click the '+ Invite' button on the upper right-hand side.
• Enter the user's email address, choose permissions, and add them to a Sensor Group if applicable.
• Then hit 'Save' to send the invitation.

Add a Contact Channel:

Contact Channels can receive alerts from Stat Temp but can take no action. This is great for pharmacy phone lines or distribution email lists.

• On the Contact Channel screen, click the type of notification you would like the new contact channel to receive.
  • Email, Phone, SMS
• Enter the name of the contact and the required information.
• If applicable, add the Contact Channel to the assigned Notification Group.
• When done click 'Save' on the bottom right.

Set up Notifications:

To ensure prompt delivery of alerts to the appropriate individuals or teams, users need to be added to notification groups. These groups comprise users and/or contact channels.

Your Stat Temp website is equipped with prebuilt Notification Groups, Notification Chains, and Workflows, all set for immediate use. Establishing basic notifications is a simple process of adding users, including yourself, to notification groups.

Setting up these notifications is as straightforward as adding a User or Contact Channel to a Notification Group. Follow the instructions below to begin receiving alerts promptly!

• Click the gear shift icon on the left side of your website.
• Click on Notification Groups.
• Click the Notification Group that you want to edit.
• Select which Users or Contact Channels will receive alerts.
• When your Notification Group is set up, click 'Save' on the bottom right.
